Kenneth M. Freeman passed away in May 2008. He was one of the country’s leading
western painters.

Ken Freeman illustrated novels for Louis L’Amour and other well known authors.

Ken painted cowboys, buffalo soldiers, Indians, mountain men and more in a
portrait style that he learned at the Art Institute of Chicago.
–
The Kenneth M. Freeman Legacy Collection contains originals from his body of
work over a five decade period, several of which have never been exhibited in a
public forum including some of his bronze sculptures.

He has the only two paintings in American Legacy Collection from
Arizona in the Library of Congress, Washington D.C.
–
Ken was known as the Rembrandt of the Rodeo for his portraits of rodeo
performers.
–
First Lady Barbara Bush invited Ken to show at the Smithsonian Institutes in
conjunction with the Native American Museum Extravaganza.

The Legacy Collection of Kenneth M. Freeman begins its inaugural tour at The
Open Range Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ in conjunction with a tribute celebration
at the 2008 Festival of the West with special recognition by legendary Western
actor Robert Fuller.

Ken made his living as an artist and his artwork has been featured on everything
from limited edition prints to commemorative plate designs (think Rockwell … Ken
sold well over 150,000 plate collections) to posters (his Hand-Off Pony Express
painting is sold in US Post Offices) to magazine covers for Arizona Highways,
Western Art Collector and more.

He was a member of Western Artists of America and was a mainstay in many of
Scottsdale’s top art galleries.

He was commissioned to paint the portrait of President Herbert Hoover.
–Accolades include winning the Salmagundi Show in New York City,
being chosen five times as Official Artist for the Parada del Sol Rodeo in
Scottsdale, Arizona and having a painting selected for the 1988 Prescott
Centennial Rodeo.

The Legacy
Collection of Ken Freeman makes its opening at Scottsdale’s famous Open Range
Gallery. This event is coordinated with Scottsdale’s Art Walk.

Freeman will be honored at a tribute at Festival of the West. Honored guests
from the Wayne Foundation (Ken did a portrait of John Wayne) and legendary
actors including Robert Fuller (Ken did the official portrait for Laramie) will
pay tribute. The Buffalo soldiers and mountain men of Ken’s paintings will be
on hand to show their love and respect for this wonderful artist. Afterwards,
it is off to the
Handlebar-J, 7116 Becker Lane in Scottsdale, to see more Ken Freeman
artwork and continue the tribute to this Western art legend.
